LaCie is good. Maxtor makes some decent ones as well. Be careful with skimping on the external cases for the hard drives. They can bite you in the ass.

thanks for the reply - heard or Maxtor - glad to know LaCie is decent quality. What do you mean to skimping on the external case? I know the lacie ones are pretty solid - the iomega ones seem small and sleek. Since i got kids around, I certainly want good solid quality.

I was under the impression that there are Maxtor drives inside the LaCie boxes. But this could be rumors on the internets!

Hate to butt in...I passed up a Seagate for a Western Digital and I haven't seen them mentioned here yet. I might have to get another one soon since this one is almost full. Should people avoid this brand?
(Come to think of it, I passed up a Maxtor (sp?)too due to really lousy customer service! HA!) Thanks in advance!!!
